Blog Day 12- Talulah May

Today was the last day of our A-Term trip and while it was certainly sad, we will forever cherish the memories and connections we made. There were many ups and downs through the trip, for one the girls finally finding a porta potty then finding out it was infested by wasps, but overall everyone agreed it was a pleasant experience. We started the morning off strong with some April fools day antics from Dr. Salem. As we walked in the room we encountered, arguably the worst thing a student can encounter, a pop quiz. The room shared a big sigh as we scavenged for spare pens and pencils, and mentally prepared for the ten question test we were told was in front of us. Luckily as we turned the page over we pleasantly faced a blank paper with a big smiley face, and a question asking “ what do you do if you’re dealt a 10 and 2 offsuit and someone else bets big?”. We all shared a laugh, and Dr. Salem’s big smile stretched across his face showing his excitement at the, admittedly genius, prank he had pulled on us. The group finally settled and we continued on with our morning. Since today was the last day, we spent our morning preparing our final A-Term presentation. Andreas took initiative and started drawing out an outline for the google slides presentation. After everyone was well organized we split off into our respective groups and began our work. It was split up into 8 different slides, highlighting the major themes and goals of our course. We had to condense our 2 week long adventure into an 8 minute presentation, and while this was disappointing because we could talk about our time in the field for hours, we made it work. After two hours or so, we gathered back into our room to practice and perfect our presentation. Though we are scheduled to present during the worst part of the day, I am confident our group's presentation will stand out. We broke for lunch and came together to run through it yet again. We spent some time talking about the negatives and positives about the trip so next year it can be an even more positive experience. I may be biased, but our group's chemistry and overall positive energy has made this the best course I, and many of us, have been on. We ended the day with a fitting farewell, a big game of poker. Throughout the week the girls, Alice and Claire, who had never played before, really improved their game, and became the card sharks of the table. At table one Andy was the first out, luckily he’s good at golf, and at table 2 Dr. Salem fell from his throne. The winners of the evening were Jackson and Blake.
